2011-01-08 It will be tough to read strategy for flash Texas Holdem rooms if you do not understand the lingo, so I will continue with poker definitions today. In reality, there are so many poker terms that even certain pros don't know all the definitions!
My next term is 'Mexican Bankroll', a stack of cash with $ 100 bills on the top and bottom but only $ 1 bills in between. Knowing this definition won't improve the winrate on Tiger Gaming, but it was a term I didn't know the before today, so I had to include it! Our next definition is for the 'nuts'. If you are playing cash games on Ultimate Bet for Mac and you have the nuts, it means that you have the best hand possible. You should always remember that the nuts on one street might not be the nuts on the next. For example, QQ is the nuts on a Q45 flop, but if the turn is a 6, it is no longer the nuts. Any free poker training regarding Hold'em usually tells new players that they will often lose if they are 'outkicked' at show down. For example, when you have a pair, you usually want to have the highest kicker possible so that if someone else has the same pair, you can still win the hand. If you have JT and the flop comes J82, you have a pair of jacks with a ten kicker. The phrase I will define for the letter P is 'polarized range'. If you are playing tournaments on a Full Tilt referral code and you have a polarized range in a situation, it means that your hand is either incredibly strong or very weak. The other day I took advantage of Bingo codes and tried my hand at Bingo, but all I proved to myself was that poker is by far a superior game. Poker is a great game because while there is a lot of luck involved, there is also quite a bit of skill. My earlier articles should help you get started, and then be sure to check back in a month for another key terms update. 2010-11-25 Hello and thanks for coming by. It is time to define more terms that should come up as you work to succeed at poker on Mac poker sites. I must admit that I am having fun going in order according to the alphabet. If nothing else it prevents me from pulling my hair out as I try to decide which terms to choose since there are so many.
For the letter 'I' let's define ICM, which is short for Independent Chip Model. If you play sit & gos on a Lucky Ace Poker download, it is mandatory that you know ICM. When there are less than 10 players remaining in a tourney, ICM gives your chips a cash value and helps you make optimal decisions. The letter J does not have a lot of variety when it comes to poker terms, so we will just go over 'jam'. If you have some free poker training and the instructor recommends that you jam, he is saying to go all-in. It is interchangeable with the terms 'shove' and 'push'. The next word I will mention is 'kill'. If you decide to play poker at your B&M instead of clearing your Bingo codes, one of your options will probably be a kill game. A kill acts as an additional blind for anyone that wins two hands in a row. A half kill requires just 1.5 times the big blind while a full kill is 2 times the big blind. People that do not like the tough games in online poker rooms might prefer kill tables since they have the ability to slow aggressive players down a bit. When someone calls, raises, or bets 'light', they are doing it with a hand that is relatively weak. Pretend that you are on your Everest Poker download and you receive 92 in the big blind. A person that opens frequently in late position raises on the button, and you make a 3-bet since you figure he is usually raising a wide range here. He is probably raising light in late position, and you are reraising light from the blinds. You should encounter these types of hands often on poker sites. We have gone through another four terms just now, so that is it for today. In December I will start with the letter M and I plan to have plenty of great examples ready to go. This gives you plenty of time to practice your game. Full Tilt is a good site if you want somewhere new to play. Full Tilt Poker%u5DF2%u7ECF%u6210%u4E3A%u6700%u4E13%u4E1A%u7684%u7F51%u7EDC%u6251%u514B%u5E73%u53F0%uFF0C%u8D76%u5FEB%u5230%u6211%u4EEC%u7684Full Tilt Poker%u4E0B%u8F7D%u9875%u9762%u4E0B%u8F7D%u6E38%u620F%u5927%u5385%uFF0C%u4F53%u9A8C%u4FBF%u6377%u7684%u64CD%u4F5C%u548C%u8D5A%u94B1%u7684%u4E50%u8DA3%u5427%uFF01 2010-10-20 Time for another entry full of poker terms you should know when you play Mac poker. You will recall that I was going through the alphabet and I had left off at E.
For both cash and MTT poker on your Bwin Poker download, it would be wise to learn about "effective stacks". When two players are in a pot, they can only wager up to the amount that the shorter stack has (the effective stack). If you have 3,400 chips and your opponent has 2,200, the effective stack is 2,200. For the F term, let's talk about the word "flip", something that can occur when friends get together for friendly games on Tiger Gaming. If you decide to participate in a flip, you must push your entire stack in with any two cards that you are dealt. You might be thinking to yourself that this does not coincide with the definition of flip you heard the other day. Well a flip can also describe a situation in which you have 50% equity. For example, if you participate in a Sit&Go on your Everest Poker download and you have JJ vs AQ all-in preflop, this is a flip situation since you take down the pot around 50% of the time. I thought "gutshot" was a good word to pick for the next letter. When you have a gutshot straight draw, you are basically hoping for one of 4 outs to complete your straight. For instance, if you take a break from watching poker videos and get dealt 78 in a ring game, you might feel frisky and decide to play it. You call a raise and the flop comes 59K. Your draw is a gutshot because you need a certain card to make a straight, which usually means you have just 4 outs. If you ever hear about an "inside straight draw", it is the same thing. You might have heard people talk about their "hero fold", which is our H term. When you make you a hero fold, you are making a difficult fold with a relatively strong hand. Imagine that you are playing on your Titanpoker download and you are against a passive player that never raises. You peel 45 and get a 678 flop, but instead of folding or calling, your opponent decides to raise! Choosing to fold this hand after a single raise is definitely an example of a hero fold. It may seem nitty, but unlike Internet slots, poker requires a lot of discipline and sometimes big laydowns are prudent. I%u2019m going to stop there, but I will start off with the letter "I" when I write another entry in a few weeks. In the meantime, be sure to play lots of hands and get lots of practice. Give PokerStars a try if you have not already done so. La adrenalina al estar en una mano, la seriedad de tu oponente. Se mueven las fichas al centro, y tú llamas. ¡Ganaste! Descargar PokerStars te llevará al mundo del póquer, el mejor póquer a cualquier hora. 2010-09-21 Last time I wrote about some key poker terms that you might want to know as you are working towards beating the Mac poker games. For the next few months, I would like to go over a few new poker dictionary entries. To entertain myself, I will go in alphabetical order and choose one term per letter. Let's go!I hope you are as excited as I am ;)
For the beginning of the alphabet, I would like to describe the term 'ante'. This is a very important word for those that play a lot of tournaments on a Full Tilt download. If there is an ante present, all players must pay a predetermined amount before the cards are dealt. The ante is usually around a tenth of the big blind, although it can be more or less depending on the game. Here's a word for which you probably already know the definition: 'bluff'. When someone bluffs, they are representing a stronger hand than the one they actually hold in order to make better hands fold. If you want to see a bluff in action, you probably just need to watch high stakes poker on US friendly poker sites for a couple minutes since it is a key way to take down pots. For the letter C, here is a something that many of the best US poker sites watch out for in their security departments: chip dumping. Chip dumping means to lose chips to another player purposely. This can occur when two people are colluding in a tournament or cash game, and it is an excellent way for criminals to launder illegally obtained cash. Now you know why money poker sites always have a security team watching for suspicious betting patterns on the virtual felt. As you read up on tips for beating Daniels Room poker, you might need to know about 'dirty outs'. A dirty out is a card that will improve your hand while giving someone else an even better hand at the same time. As an example, pretend you are playing cash games on a Bwin Poker download and flop a straight draw on a board with two hearts. If the turn brings a third heart but also makes you a straight at the same time, you have to consider that it may be a dirty out as someone could have made a flush at the same time. That is it for today, but I will be back to continue on in a month. In the meantime, it might be wise to educate yourself regarding PokerStars rakeback. Good luck at the tables! 2010-09-04 In a previous entry I mentioned poker tools that are able to help you out as you study and learn more about Mac poker sites. I mentioned that you should always have an online poker dictionary since you'll find it hard to read advanced strategies without knowing the poker terminology most frequently used when discussing strategy. However, the one problem with a poker dictionary is that the list of poker terms is so long that you won't know where to start! Today I am going to list a small number of the poker terms that I consider most important for someone learning on an Everest Poker download or any other Internet poker site. Start with these terms because you'll come across them often and important points will be missed if you don't know what they mean.
Actually the most important terms have been talked about in previous weeks or months, so please make sure you've read my previous articles before continuing. You should always pay close attention to 'bankroll management' and 'variance' as they are undeniably some of the most important terms in poker. When playing on your poker flash website, you might be the victim of a lengthy downswing. That's why you need to have a healthy bankroll. Since poker is all about money, you should quickly learn about the rake. The rake is the money removed from all the pots or prize pools by the site or establishment hosting your poker game. As an example, if you use a Full Tilt Poker download and play at the no-limit tables, each pot you play will be reduced by around 5% and given to the site. Rake is usually different when comparing online sites to brick and mortar casinos, and there is usually a maximum amount that can be raked per hand. Another important term to learn about is 'position'. Previously we considered the importance of your starting hands in the poker hands order article, but we neglected to go over position, another important consideration. You are in position if you're last to act after the flop, and being in position makes mediocre cards better while being out of position makes good cards worse. It is a good idea to limit the hands you play while out of position, but you're able to play more hands while you're in position. When you play Internet slots, you don't have to pay attention to where other people are playing. Poker is very different in that way. I suggest looking for the term 'outs' in an online poker dictionary before visiting that flash Texas Holdem site. At any given time if you believe you don't have the best hand, you should take note of the cards that could come on later streets that likely would improve your hand to the winner. These are what you call your 'outs'. Learn about 'fold equity'. As you play pots in this game, you should recognize that one way to win pots is to bet and have your opponents fold. This is what is known as fold equity, and it is vital in poker because it's another way for you to win more pots and more money. If you ever take a look at high stakes games on a PokerStars download, you will find that the best players make use of this concept very often. As you read poker strategy online, the word 'nit' will likely appear every so often. A person is a nit if he plays a narrow range of hands preflop and he's unwilling to gamble. He will rarely invest a lot of money in a hand where he is unlikely to be ahead. Before I conclude the free poker training in this particular entry, I'll tell you about the term 'all-in'. Frequently seen in tournament poker, if you go all-in, you are betting your entire stack and your opponents must call the equivalent of your stack if they want to continue with the hand. If you get a call and lose the showdown, you are often out of chips and you have to re-buy (if the game permits it) or stop playing. When I am back next time, I will probably list more terms to take a look at. In the meantime, look at these ones and then search for a few strategy articles to study. Thanks for reading and see you next time! 2010-07-27 This entry is going to describe a training website that specializes in Sit 'n' Go (SNG) tourneys. SNGs are tourneys that don't start until they've reached a predetermined number of entrants. For instance, you can choose to play a nine player SNG, and when the tournament has received 9 participants, it starts. SNGs can be have anywhere from 2 to 180+ players in them. Your room of choice should offer SNGs, even if it's one of the smaller European or Mac poker sites.
SitnGoGrinders.com concentrates on SNG tournaments. Since SNGs have a predetermined number of entrants, they have special payout structures and therefore special strategy. SitnGo Grinders has a wealth of SNG information on their site including videos and articles, and the people that make the videos or write the articles have had great success in online casinos for USA players. You'll find that it's a bargain to access the videos, as well. Unlike some sites you are not required to pay a one time membership fee, and you'll pay around $20/month for a short term membership. If you're thinking long term, you should think about signing up for the entire year because it's just $129 for 12 months and then $ 10/month after that. SitnGo Grinders is a relatively new training site, so their video catalog hasn't reached the size of some of the larger sites out there. They are currently releasing around a video per day, so their video selection will continue to grow. I doubt you'll be disappointed with the selection right off the bat, anyway. People interested in 6 max SNGs on money poker sites will find hundreds of videos to choose from, as will those interested in multi-table SNGs. There are close to a hundred videos for full ring and heads-up games, which is still enough to keep you watching for quite a while. Several of the instructors grind on PokerStars, one of the top Texas Hold'em sites on the Internet today. These players chose this site because of the PokerStars bonus code and VIP program, and most of them are either Supernova or Supernova Elite players. These statuses show that they really do grind the heck out of SNGs, which makes sense due to the site's name! The videos offered start at very low buy-ins but go up to nose bleed stakes, so there's a little something available for everyone. If you play mostly ring games on your Full Tilt Poker download, I do not recommend this site to you. If you're a multi-table tournament player, you won't have any videos targeted to your game either, but you might still find the site useful for learning MTT endgame. While SitnGoGrinders.com isn't the first choice for those that like variety, it is still a fantastic resource at a very good price. This site is a must have for any player looking to make SNGs their game of choice. 2010-06-28 So far I%u2019ve introduced a couple training sites that favor ring games, so this time I'm going to describe a site that makes poker videos for MTTs. Poker Pwnage came out relatively recently, and they came with one intention: to make poker videos for tournament players. You'll pay a $35 activation and then around $25 per month for a membership. Comparing it to the sites from the previous entries, it's cheaper than Cardrunners but more expensive than GrinderSchool.
If you play the tournaments on a Virgin Poker download but you keep having to reload, Poker Pwnage might be the right site for you. They have made over 300 online poker videos, and they were produced by a number of talented multi-table tournament poker professionals. If you've been following this year's World Series of Poker, you might know that two of their instructors have made final tables so far. Adrian 'Chardrian' Dresel-Velasquez cashed for $43,000 in a Limit event and David 'GhettoFabolous' Randall cashed for $270,000 in a No Limit event. If you hate MTT poker but love Sit-N-Go's, you will probably also benefit from Poker Pwnage. The videos feature stakes between $ 10 and $ 100, and if you don't like full ring games, you can learn about short handed or heads-up instead. It's possible to learn the basics, but it's possible to also find some advanced tactics. Even if you%u2019ve been playing since the Moneymaker boom, you'll still learn a few things from these videos. If you're looking for some cash game instruction, this is definitely the wrong site for you. Right now there are only five cash videos, and we might be waiting a while before the next one. If you mostly sit at Draw tables on a Full Tilt Poker download, this site is also not for you. The videos feature Texas Hold Em, and I doubt we'll see much else for a while. Really though, there are so many training sites that feature almost exclusively cash games, so it's really nice to know that Poker Pwnage has something for the tournament players. When you subscribe to the site, you can be positive that the education you will receive is capable of turning you into a winning player. Once you've received some professional advice, I hope that you won't have to make an additional poker deposit on Tiger Gaming ever again! 2010-06-09 A couple weeks ago, I discussed GrinderSchool, a training site that makes poker videos for beginner players. Today%u2019s entry will discuss Cardrunners, one of the most successful and respected training sites on the internet these days. The site was brought to life by Taylor Caby and Andrew Wiggins, and in 2008 they formed a partnership with Full Tilt. The site has a large selection of poker videos for almost any buy-in you want to learn about.
Signing up with Cardrunners will give you access to a limited number of free poker videos, but you'll have to put up some cash in order to view the really worthwhile content. You might find the fees a bit high, especially if you're a low stakes player, because first you get charged $ 100 to sign up, and then the monthly charge is $30. Serious players will learn that the membership fees are worth it, though. Right now there is an excess of 1800 online poker videos on their site for streaming and download, and every week at least seven more are released. As with GrinderSchool, Cardrunners specializes in cash games. They have an excellent choice of videos for No Limit Holdem 6-max due to popular demand, and the Full Ring catalog has gotten better over the past couple of years. If you play Texas Hold Em hands in either Limit or Heads-Up, you'll also have a very good selection of videos to view. If you like Sit-N-Go's or you're an MTT poker player, Cardrunners won't be your first choice because their obvious focus is definitely cash games. I'm not saying that the tournament videos are bad - the selection is still better than most sites, and they cover pretty much every buy-in. For people that play tournaments occasionally, Cardrunners is the best way to go as they still have several videos for MTTs and SNGs to go along with their excellent cash game selection. If you need some Omaha videos to help you with Rush Poker Omaha, Cardrunners has some of the most useful videos out of all the sites today. This is also true for other types of poker like HORSE or Stud. It's impossible to find a site that has a selection that can compare to that of Hold Em, but Cardrunners definitely has the best selection of videos for other games out of all the training sites out there. Once you build up your bankroll at real money poker sites, Cardrunners is a fabulous way to go if you are okay with paying for some really good training videos. They're most certainly the number one option for cash players, and if you decide to play a few tournaments, you'll have a lot to choose from there, as well. All in all, you're always going to benefit in some way when you join Cardrunners. 2010-05-27 If you remember my older entries, you'll recall that I talked about some key poker tools that have the ability to help you improve your game. You read that it's useful to find some free poker videos since they really help you to learn some advanced strategies, and you don't have to spend any money. If you've already taken this advice and found a bunch of free videos, you might be wondering what to do next once you've exhausted the free video market on the internet. By now your bankroll should be growing, and the next step is to invest some of this profit on some more advanced videos. My next few articles are going give reviews on a few of the internet training sites that you are able to sign up for if you're eager for some new poker videos.
Today I'd like to talk about GrinderSchool as it caters to players at low stakes. For as little as $ 10/month, you get access to 600+ online poker videos by people that have proven they can make a lot of money in the games featured in their videos. The site releases 7 videos each week, and while the bulk of them feature No Limit Hold Em, at least four each month are videos for other games like Omaha or Razz. If you play ring games and your focus is No Limit Hold Em, you%u2019ll benefit a lot from a GrinderSchool subscription. There are a multitude of short-handed and full ring poker videos, and new players will have no trouble finding a few videos at their chosen low buy-in. If you play mainly heads-up or Limit, though, you might not be as happy. There are a few videos each game, but a long term subscription is probably not worth it for players that specialize in those types of poker. The same can be said for people that want help with Omaha or other less frequently played poker types like Draw. Are you as addicted to Rush Poker tournaments on Full Tilt as I am? Tournament players also have a good selection of videos, and most of them are by some really excellent players. The videos show buy-ins from $2 to $55, and a majority of the videos participate in a 3 to 9 part series. If you enjoy playing in tournaments outside your bankroll, you can also pick from videos that feature satellites. If you find MTT poker frustrating and prefer single-table tournaments, I highly recommend GrinderSchool. The SNG videos feature mostly the site's founder, but they recently hired a couple new respectable instructors. These videos feature stakes between $ 1 and $33, and both beginner and advanced concepts are covered. I give a big thumbs up to GrinderSchool as a site for new players trying real money poker sites. We've already seen how low the monthly cost is, and with no sign up fee, it's almost a no-brainer! If you play mostly Omaha or Stud, you probably should be looking elsewhere, but players new to No Limit Hold Em will benefit greatly from this training site. 2010-05-10 I introduced the concept of pot odds in the last entry, and today I should introduce a related subject and go over implied odds. As we talked about last time, following a correct poker hands order should often provide a winning hand postflop, but there will be times where you will need to get your money in while behind. Obviously you will lose a few of these pots, and this is why bankroll management is so critical when it comes to the game of poker. When we discuss implied odds, there will be the same 'put your money in while behind' theme. The reason is different, though: we call bets with implied odds because we are hoping to win bets on later streets when we hit.
To see what I mean, let' go back to the example of flopping a flush draw from the last entry. We were playing a tournament on a Full Tilt Poker download and we flopped a flush draw. We'll make it slightly different though: pretend that our opponent does not raise all-in over our bet and, instead, raises 600 more chips. Considering just pot odds, this 600 raise is too many chips because, as we saw last time, only raises less than 500 allow us to call. A little extra information, though, might turn this into a winning situation. Imagine that he has 1,000 chips behind and we know that he will call the rest on the river no matter what. To keep the math simple, let's also imagine that he is sure to check the turn all the time. This sets up a situation in which it becomes correct to calculate implied odds rather than pot odds. Because we know that he isn't ever folding, you can put his remaining 1,000 chips into your calculations, making the pot 2,000 chips instead of 1,000. You need to call 600 chips to win 2,000 in the pot and 600 / 2,000 = 30%. Since you are around 33% to hit your flush by the river, this call has positive expectation when implied odds are considered. You can see that a poker odds chart, pot odds, and implied odds can give you a huge edge at the table. An inexperienced individual has a lot of potential to lose money at the wrong time with his draws. For example, he might call with incorrect pot odds while on a draw, and without any implied odds, this is a losing play in the long run. The other way he could lose money in the long run is by folding his draw because he doesn' realize he has the correct implied odds to call, and this is also unprofitable. MTT poker and cash games alike require you to take advantage of both pot odds and implied odds to determine whether or not to continue with a hand when you have a draw. Before I finish off, I'd just like to advise you to be a bit careful with this new knowledge. Sometimes players will start calling with 100% of their draws when they are taught implied odds because they think they'll always get paid off when they get the cards they need. When you're counting future bets, you must be absolutely sure that you are actually going to get them. Let's pretend that you're playing poker hands in a live brick-and-mortar game and you hit a set of sixes on the turn, but it seems that it gave your opponent a flush at the same time. He raises and you need to decide whether or not you have the implied odds to try to hit your boat on the river. Some players won't go all the way with a flush on a paired board, and you must consider this when you're calculating your implied odds. If you are overly optimistic and you think that he's going to call a bet when he actually won't, you won't have the correct odds to call after all, and you'll be in a losing situation. | Author
